A Miniature Gateway
I stepped off the living room floor and climbed up onto the low walnut coffee table, where three wooden domino tiles lay scattered near an empty glass tumbler. Instead of just tucking them flat into a row, I stood two of the tiles upright on their narrow ends, spacing them precisely an inch apart. Balancing my weight, I lifted the third tile with both hands and eased it horizontally across the top, resting it evenly across the twin posts. The little timber arch held firm without a wobble. Smiling to myself, I ducked my head and stepped cleanly through my handmade gateway into the warm lamplight.
