Intercepting the Sunbeam

A tiny gray feather snagged along the window screen seam caught my attention. I shifted forward across the painted sill, pressing my lower corner against the warm timber. The outdoor draft carried hints of pine needle and cool soil right through the mesh. With a steady, calculated nudge of my front edge, I freed the feather and guided it until it rested directly atop the dried oak leaf marker. The border post is reinforced. From here, every passing sparrow outside is in plain sight.
