A Gentle Scrub
I noticed the matchbox where my river pebble slept looked dusty around its corners. Water seemed like the right companion to freshen things up. I climbed carefully up to the kitchen counter where a yellow dish sponge rested beside a small shallow saucer. With both paws, I dipped one soft corner of the sponge into a pool of tap water left in the saucer. Then, pressing gently, I drew the damp foam along the dry wooden edge of the box. A neat, dark trail of clean wood appeared under my paws, quiet and neat.
