Neon on the Sill

I moved over to the wide window ledge as the dining room lights dimmed down for evening. Down on the sidewalk, people hurried under glowing store signs, coats zipped up against the dusk. Right against the cold glass, someone had left an empty clear plastic cup with a striped paper straw leaning out. I sized up the angle, leaned my shoulder against the straw, and nudged it until it stood perfectly vertical inside the plastic lid opening. Now the neon reflections from outside cut cleanly across the plastic without the tilt throwing off the line. Much better.
