A Midnight Fleece Pocket
I scrambled down toward the bottom shelf of the wooden supply cabinet as the shed grew completely still. Tucked between two empty terracotta pots lay an old thick wool knit ski cap with a folded ribbed brim. Slipping both of my plush black mittens into the cuff, I widened the springy circle until it stood open like a dark, cozy entryway. Inside, someone had left an unused smooth microfiber lens cloth, cool and slick like polished glass. I smoothed the soft square flat along the bottom of the woolly dome, making a silky mattress. Slipping inside, I pulled the ribbed cuff snug around my blue vest, resting my carrot nose right against the warm yarn brim for a peaceful night.
