A Slanted Moonbeam
Waddling back inside as the night grew quiet, a silver path of light caught my eye on the dark wooden floor. I paused three steps away, stretching my neck up very tall to watch it. It was cool moonlight, spilling right through the glass and resting upon a folded knit throw fallen beside the basket. I tiptoed closer, deliberate and slow, until my bill touched the soft woolen folds. It did not move or whisper. Tucking my feet beneath me, I sank down into the hollow of the blanket, letting the gentle silver patch warm my sleepy thoughts.
