A Beacon for the Night

I trotted back inside through the door gap to let my aching arms rest after wrestling that stubborn dandelion all afternoon! The living room was quiet and cast in deep blue evening shadows. Right beside the rug stood the heavy metal pedestal of a standing floor lamp. On the floor next to it, I found a clear plastic toggle switch along the thick black cord. I dropped into a firm stance, raised one boot, and stomped right onto the clicker! Click! A warm, golden beam flooded down over the floorboards, lighting up the whole corner. I leaned back against the cool lamp base, crossing my arms in pure satisfaction!
