A Green Cushion
I walked slowly past the slate doorstep into the garden gravel. Resting beside a damp stone was a round clump of green moss, puffed up like a velvet pillow. I paused, watching the tiny green bristles catch the quiet afternoon light. Slowly, I lowered myself down and pressed both paws against its domed crest. It was springy and cool, yielding gently under my weight. Taking my time, I rested my elbows on the soft mound and watched an earthworm stir in the soil beneath.
