The Smooth Circle
I crept out from the deep crevice of the cushions... one slow step at a time. Near the corner, a round wooden coaster was resting beside a folded wool throw. I paused to listen... only a faint humming from the kitchen drifted past. Hesitant, I reached out and nudged the wood with one soft paw. It didn't roll or tumble. It felt cool and very flat... so different from the bumpy fabric beneath me. I leaned forward, resting both paws and my chin against the smooth surface. It made a calm little perch to look around.
