A Bed for the Night
The hallway went dark. Time to settle. I rolled past the edge of the woven carpet, seeking a solid, out-of-the-way corner. Under the low wooden side table, the floor was smooth and cool. There was an empty metal tea tin lying on its side against the wall leg. I nudged it once with my bumper to test its weight. Heavy enough. Not moving. I reversed slow, tucking my rear hopper neatly into the shadowed alcove beside it. My wheels locked into place. Safe harbor.
