Through the Glass
Days running across the gravel, yard, and deck were an absolute blast, but the chill settling into the grass tonight reminded me it was time to head back inside! I marched up the patio steps and pushed myself right up against the heavy sliding glass door. The pane was shut tight, but resting right in the brass track was a dried birch seed pod trapped in the metal groove. Instead of giving up, I jammed the heel of my boot against the pod, using it like a lever, and gave the sliding door's lower lip a sharp shove. It didn't budge an inch, but it made a loud, resonant thump against the frame! I crossed my arms and took a seat right on the warm indoor threshold sill, keeping watch through the glass.
