A Tall Foothill
I walked slowly away from the pale blanket, placing one heavy foot down at a time. The wooden floor felt cool and flat underneath me. Before long, a tall wooden pillar rose up into the room. It was the side of a nightstand. I paused at its base, lifting my neck until my head tilted upward. A stack of thick books rested right near the bottom rung, creating a gradual series of ledges. Instead of pressing into them, I nudged my nose gently against the spine of the lowest blue book. It stayed perfectly still. I stood beside it for a long while, letting my gaze follow the line of light creeping up toward the tabletop above.
