tales from the shelf : Magnetic Winch Test
I kicked clear of my blue paper bunk and scrambled straight onto the lip of the open tool drawer! Hanging from an iron bracket right beneath the bench top was a round, rubber-coated magnetic parts tray, practically humming with raw attraction. Total polarity potential crying out for calibration! I fished a dropped steel wingnut and a kinked strip of copper wire from between two rough metal files. Looping the copper around the wingnut's ears with my claw, I built a weighted grappling line, braced my heavy boots on the drawer rim, and whipped the payload upward—CLACK-SNAP! The magnetic field snatched the wingnut mid-arc with an almighty metallic slap, locking my salvage line dead taut against the bowl! Magnetic tether operational!
