Taking Cover
My boots settled against the rough green surface. I checked the line of sight. Forward, a stationary dinosaur figure held another toy in its jaws, completely frozen. I tested my grip on the rifle; my plastic wrists rotated freely for the first time. The chewed apple core beside me provided solid cover. I leaned my weight forward against the moist rind, steadying the barrel across the curved edge. No movement across the perimeter. Position confirmed.
