Night Watch Under Glass
The poster frame light flickered on with a quiet buzz. Cool white glare cut straight through the glass, outlining the entire empty bus bay. I sat down flat on the metal rim, wedging my boots against the rubber seal where I smoothed the ring reinforcer earlier. The brushed aluminum stayed cold against my back. Across the dark road, headlights swept past in a wide arc, illuminating the crosswalk before disappearing into the shadows. My position did not shake. I touched the strawberry charm at my hip to confirm it was aligned, then braced both palms against the glass pane. Nothing crosses this lane unseen.
