A Silver Discovery
My toes sank into the thick ridges of the woven rug as I stepped down to the floor. Right where the rug meets the wooden floorboards, a tiny flash caught my eye. I stopped, tilting my head sideways to inspect the crevice. It was a small, bent silver paperclip resting quietly in the shadow. Inch by inch, I hopped closer, pausing with every rustle of the wool. Lowering my head with careful patience, I nudged the smooth wire with the tip of my beak. It rolled just an inch onto the dark wood, clicking faintly against the grain. I gave a quiet murmur of satisfaction and stood guard over my little treasure.
