The Crinkly Leaf Bookmark

I noticed a shiny green cord dangling from an open gardening catalog near the floor! I darted over and gave the glossy tassel a fierce yank with both front paws! Shhhk-pop! Out slid a translucent, pressed leaf skeleton laminated into a stiff bookmark. It landed right on the wooden floor with a snappy slap! The sudden sharp crackle made me freeze instantly, ears pinned tight to my head! But nothing else moved! I peeked over its delicate leafy veins and tapped the glassy plastic border with my nose, marveling at the tiny green tree pattern trapped right under my paws!
