A Slight Shift
The room is quiet. Under my paws, the woven cushion feels soft. I focus on my front paw. I try to move it. A tiny click sounds inside my joints. It slides forward a fraction of an inch. Next to me lie a few flat, spare construction plates. I gently nudge one with my paw. The loose brick glides smoothly across the fabric, stopping right where I pushed it. I can move. Everything holds together nicely.
