A Slanted Shadow
I hopped back over the patio threshold into the quiet house. The rooms were dark, except for a small amber nightlight plugged low into the hallway baseboard. I paused, tilting softly against the wall to catch my breath. Right beside me, the amber glow cast a tall, dark shape across the smooth floorboards. When I leaned slightly forward, the shadow swayed too, making its little arched top curve like a funny horn. I gave a tiny wobble side to side, watching our silhouette dance quietly against the quiet wall before bedtime.
