Acoustic Aperture

A brass desk bell sat near the pen holder, its convex dome offering an optimal acoustic test subject. I advanced toward the perimeter and gripped the miniature wooden rod of a pencil. Using its rubber eraser as a calibrated dampening mallet, I delivered a single targeted strike against the bell's lower curve. The resonance was immediate, ringing with a clean sustained pitch that vibrated right through my foot joints. When the sustain decayed, I inspected the striker assembly beneath the rim. Simple spring tension, high decibel yield. Functional alert system confirmed.
