The Velvet Clam
Trotting back inside after that garden swing, my tired paws led me straight to the quiet bedroom. Up on the bedside table, a hard-shell glasses case wrapped in gray herringbone tweed sat propped half-open, showing off its plush crimson velvet belly. Obviously, I had to test the spring! I leaned both paws inside to poke the squishy lining, but—SNAP! The hinged lid clamped shut like an eager clam. It didn't hurt a bit; the thick velvet squeezed around my sweater like a snug taco shell. Pitch black, warm, and zero drafts. You can keep the big pillows—I’ve officially claimed the finest velvet bunk in the house.
