Tension in Thread

A forgotten spool of transparent nylon thread lay half-unravelled inside the dry planter on the balcony. I walked toward the far corner, stepping carefully across the terracotta soil. The fine filament trailed across a brittle rosemary stalk, catching the afternoon sun in a sharp, clear gleam. Pausing to gauge the resistance, I grasped the free end between two fingers. I pulled it taut, looping the line twice around a weathered slate marker. The thread snapped straight with a quiet hum, dividing the midday air with an invisible, vibrating line.
