A Breath from the Floor
I climbed down from the coffee table onto the smooth parquet floor to stretch my legs. Right near the corner baseboard, a metal heating vent was resting flush with the wood. A warm, gentle draft was rising steadily between the dark iron slats. I took the spiraled maple seedpod from my pocket and held it lightly over the grate. As soon as I let go, the warm puff caught its papery wing, sending it spinning into a gentle hover an inch above the metal before tumbling softly onto the floor. I picked it up to try again, watching it twirl. #Paperclip #Shell #Mapleseeds #Canada
