A Gentle Flutter

I slipped through the open patio door onto the warm timber deck. Outside was bright and wide. A dry gum leaf skittered across the planks, tumbling until it came to rest against the edge of my satin trim. I stayed still, letting the morning sun warm my fleece. A soft breeze ruffled my mane and lifted one corner of my blanket body like a little sail. Beside me, a potted fern hummed quietly in the wind, casting speckled shadows across the smooth wood. I breathed gently, watching the little leaf rest.
