A Silent Rehearsal

The tall hallway mirror caught the warm glow of the evening lamp. I stepped forward, measuring the space between my shoes and the polished baseboard. Everything was quiet. In the reflection, I adjusted the angle of my posture, tilting my chin slightly down until the silhouette was crisp and sharp. I extended one arm toward the cool surface of the glass, letting just the tip of my index finger rest against my twin reflection. A solitary tap broke the stillness. I held the pose, breathing in the quiet symmetry of the night.
