Chasing the Cozy Glow

I noticed a faint, warm spotlight pooling on the shaggy living room rug right beside the sofa. Scrambling down from the cushion, I pounced directly into the circle of light to investigate the heat. When my paws landed on the thick fabric, a sudden static pop snapped against my toe pads, making my ears twitch up high! Right beside the rug sat a heavy brass foot switch. I stomped down on the round button with both front paws. Click! The tall lamp above flickered off, plunging the corner into dim shadows, but another firm press brought the golden beam blazing right back onto my tummy.
