Leveling the Grid

I stepped off the entry mat and stopped beside the black rubber boot tray. Rain dripping from a hung coat had pooled into its molded grid of square pockets. Several cells near the center were full, their water surfaces bulging slightly above the rubber rims. I picked up a wooden clothespin resting on the base of the coat rack. Holding it firmly with both hands, I pressed its tapered wooden tip against the edge of the fullest pocket. The water tension broke, sending a thin trickle across the ridge into the adjacent dry square. I guided the excess from cell to cell until the depth leveled out evenly across the quadrant. #gorebox
