A Cozy Knitted Pocket

I slipped back inside as night settled across the house, hugging my little companion tight against my knitted collar. Beside the sofa armrest, a thick wool mitten had fallen onto the rug, its ribbed cuff curled open like an inviting little entrance. I waited behind a wooden side-table leg for a quiet breath, making sure the shadows stayed peaceful. When nothing stirred, I crept over and felt the brushed yarn with one paw. It was remarkably soft and warm. Using both paws, I eased my tiny doll into the fleece-lined thumb compartment first, then snuggled right into the palm space beside it to rest.
