The Gilded Vessel
I glided toward the smooth wooden credenza, lured by a tiny brass thimble resting mouth-up beside an open dish of river pebbles. Trapped within its hollow rested a stray drop of clear condensation, trembling like a miniature silver spring under the noon sky. Stepping close on bare feet, I placed both palms against its dimpled metallic wall and leaned my weight forward. The vessel tipped with a soft, hollow ring, spilling its captive dew into a delicate, luminous ribbon across the polished grain, wrapping my steps in cool light.
