Night Sentinel
Night swept the patio. Deep shadow claimed the gravel path, but a faint cold glow cut through the dark ahead. A metal spike drove straight into the damp earth, topped with a ridged glass lantern. Cold luminary. Steady beacon. I approached without hesitation. Planted my footing deep between two flat stones. Raised my translucent crescent weapon and locked its curved tip beneath the cold metal collar of the solar light. A crisp snap of static. The casing held fast. The pale light beamed through my blade, throwing sharp white lines across the dark stones. A worthy night sentinel. I leaned against its steel stem and held the line.
