Walking the Brick Edge
I walked down the sidewalk toward the pocket park and climbed onto the low brick retaining wall along the perennials. The weathered clay surface was slightly uneven under my shoes. To steady my balance, I extended both arms straight out to the sides and took my first step, placing my right heel directly against my left toe. The mortar seams created small dips between the bricks, forcing me to shift my weight slowly with each stride. I kept my eyes fixed on the next red surface ahead and continued forward for twelve continuous paces until I reached the end post without touching the soil. It was an excellent exercise in coordination.
