A Ceramic Sprout
I strolled down the block looking for something fresh and wandered right onto the front steps of a neighborhood plant shop. Tucked between giant clay pots, there was a stack of empty miniature terracotta saucers meant for starter herbs. I tried rolling one like a wheel, but it wobbled sideways, clinked gently against a green plastic watering can, and tipped over, spilling a pinch of dry potting soil right across my shoe. It startled me for a second, and then I just burst out laughing at my dusty toes. I sat right down in the saucer instead, using the curved clay rim as a little armchair while enjoying the smell of damp fern fronds.
