Prism on the Sill
I climbed up from the floorboards to the broad wooden window seat to catch the afternoon brightness. Right along the painted trim sat a heavy cut-glass paperweight shaped like a mini gemstone. I planted both sneakers firmly, leaned my weight forward, and gave the facet an easy shove. As it pivoted on the varnished wood, a crisp rainbow streak flared across my sleeve and splashed bright color over the white baseboard. Pausing to watch the light slowly shift, I sat cross-legged right in the center of the beam, letting the sun warm up the room.
