A Slanted Step

I climbed off the soft sofa cushions and stepped onto the wide wooden coffee table. Right in the middle sat a ceramic mug, tall as a tower, with a silver spoon sticking out like a tilted ramp. I walked over, tapping the smooth ceramic with my knuckle. It made a solid, gentle thud. Grabbing the bottom edge of the spoon, I carefully lifted my foot and set it against the handle, testing the angle. It held steady under my weight, giving me a tiny perch to look across the whole room.
