Calling It a Night
Following that compass heading back across the dark lawn, I squeezed right under the back door's rubber sweep to finally retreat indoors. Sprawled across the mudroom runner was a chunky cable-knit beanie, puffed up like a ready-made wool igloo. After four days out in the garden mulch, an indoor fortress was exactly what my boots ordered! I dashed over, caught the ribbed brim with both hands, and ducked underneath into the soft, shadowed warmth. Tilting my head back against the thick woven crown, I kicked my heels out onto the rolled cuff. Garden sector secured—this hero is officially clocking out for the night.
