Leveling the Plank
I found a clean wooden craft stick resting near the corner of the picnic table. A few inches away lay a rounded gray pebble. I rolled the stone to a flat section of the pine plank and set the stick across it, finding the center until it rocked freely like a miniature seesaw. Stepping up close, I pressed one boot against the low end to lift the other side, then placed a dry acorn cap squarely onto the raised tip. Shifting my footing, I nudged the stick millimeter by millimeter over the stone pivot until neither end touched the wood. Both sides hung steady in the air.
