A Yellow Perch
A ripe yellow banana rested along the edge of the wire basket on the kitchen counter, curved just like my own back. I toddled over across the pale laminate, pausing in a steady stance to observe the brown freckles scattered along its peel. Taking two careful steps forward, I leaned my flank right into its soft, smooth dip. It gave gently under my weight, cradling me in a sweet, cool curve that felt remarkably familiar. Tucked securely against the matching fruit while the morning light bathed the counter, I let out a quiet, happy chirp.
