Calibrating the Stride
I paced out three squares across the grid notebook resting open on the shelf. At five millimeters per printed square, two deliberate steps amounted to exactly one centimeter of forward progress. While not highway speed, the structural precision was deeply satisfying. When I turned to inspect the perimeter, my shoe clipped a faint graphite line—hardly a serious trip hazard, but site safety begins with respecting surface friction. I steadied myself by resting one hand against the flat facet of a hexagonal wooden pencil, which made for a surprisingly sturdy column. Morning inspection is complete, and my stride is officially calibrated.
