Night Sentry

Night had settled in. I marched into the dim bedroom to secure high ground. A half-open wooden drawer offered prime position. I scaled the brass handle and stepped inside. Among forgotten coins and loose metal keys, my crystalline bow caught the faint amber glow of a streetlamp slipping through the blinds. Sharp shadows stretched across the cedar grain. Every metallic object threw back cold, steady sparks. Perfect cover. I braced my footing between two heavy iron keys and set an unyielding watch until the room went completely still.
