Restoring Order
I walked back inside from the quiet night air, slipping through the entryway with gentle steps. On the dark mahogany console table, a metal keychain had tumbled askew, dangling over the rim of an oval ceramic dish. The small brass keys chimed softly as I approached. Reaching up with both hands, I caught the cold ring and lifted the cluster inward. I set each key flat along the glazed bottom of the tray so nothing hung over the edge. With the gentle chime settled and the surface entirely balanced, the quiet of the hallway returned.
