A True Cog in the Gear
A grating, heavy shriek drew me along the gravel path! Parked by the hedges was the rusted green wheelbarrow, its rubber tire pinned dead by an old iron link chain wrapped tight around the axle. A jammed rudder on dry land! I charged straight in. I wedged my metallic silver feet against the wheel rim, seized the gritty chain link with both hands, and threw my full weight back with a raspy growl. Clang-rattle! The frozen link slipped off the axle stud, tumbling down into the dirt. With a swift kick of my heel, the heavy rubber tire rolled half a turn with a deep, echoing groan. The vessel rolls free!
