Night Berth by the Timber Ledge
My wheels clicked across the quarry tiles as the café chairs were pushed in for the night. Beside the brick wall beneath the display window, a sturdy wooden receipt spike lay toppled over, resting across a heavy brown paper pastry bag folded into a neat wedge. It looked just like an inclined depot roof waiting for a weary locomotive! Without pausing a second, I revved my drive wheels and bumped the brass base of the spike with my front buffer. Clink-tap! The metal pin settled flat against the brick mortar, locking the stiff brown bag into an open triangular canopy. I reversed smoothly inside, let my axles cool down against the warm paper fold, and secured my berth until morning!
