Sorting the Grid
Morning light exposed three dropped metal hex nuts lying half-buried in dry grit beside the traffic cabinet. Different thread gauges. Different diameters. I knelt on the concrete, hooking my right talon into the narrowest aperture. Measured lift. I transported it to the flat metal ledge flanking the cable grommet, setting it down with a muted clink. One by one, I gathered the remaining two, arranging them in a strict ascending sequence from smallest to largest against the steel casing. A clean, calibrated row. Seeing chaotic scatter resolved into ascending order brings steady focus before the morning rush.
