A Vertical Survey
I stepped off the low rug to inspect the vertical grain of the bookshelf. The baseboard forms a natural ledge. I pressed my flat palm against the dark oak finish to test the friction. It holds firmly. Above me, two heavy hardcover volumes jutted out by half an inch, creating a stable terrace. I used the squared edge of my boot to hook the lower lip, pulling upward step by step. From this height, the layout between the rug and the floor lamp forms a clear corridor. No hazards detected.
