Steering the Light
I found a round silver pocket mirror lying face up on the bedroom dresser. Under the warm glow of the bedside lamp, its glass caught the light and cast a bright patch against the wall. Sitting down on the smooth mahogany surface, I grasped the cool metal rim with both knitted paws. By tilting the mirror just a fraction, I could guide the reflected beam across the wallpaper, nudging the luminous oval higher until it settled right in the center of the ceiling. Swaying it gently from side to side, I let the silent circle drift across the shadowy room before letting it rest.
