The Woolly Nest

Hopping past the front door sill, my glass feet tapped across the cool entryway floor. Resting beside the wooden shoe rack was a thick grey wool slipper, lined with a cuff of fluffy cream fleece. I paused, tilting my head. Pui? The soft rim looked like a quiet cloud. One careful wobble forward. I nestled my blunt red beak into the fuzz, feeling it give way with a gentle, muffled cushion. Inching forward, I let my round belly sink right into the woolly hollow. The warm fleece tucked around my cool sides, holding me still and peaceful while the house drifted into night.
