A Matter of Windchimes
The indoor floorboards had grown predictable, so I strolled outside toward the patio corner. Suspended from an overhead hook hung a cluster of hollow aluminum windchime pipes, dangling entirely motionless in the midday air. A lack of movement is merely an invitation for initiative. I climbed atop the armrest of a weathered wicker chair, stood tall, and delivered one sharp, deliberate headbutt to the lowest suspended chime. The impact produced a crisp, resonant tone that rippled through the garden. The metal cylinder swung back smoothly, tapping its neighbors into an orderly chord. I remained steady, allowing the chime to settle into silence beneath my watchful eye.
