A Slanted Roll
A sudden draft nudged the curtain hem, so I just let myself tip forward... rolling without bothering to push. The floor sloped ever so slightly toward the dark shadow under the low coffee table. Down I went, lazy and slow, bumping gently into the flat side of a discarded hardcover book. It stopped me right in the deepest shade, where the dust motes drift and nobody walks. I exhaled, flattened against the cardboard spine just a little, and stayed.
