Spring Wedge Analysis
Lowering myself from the baseboard screw, I dropped onto the floorboards directly beside the hallway doorstop. The device consists of a heavy-gauge coiled steel spring projecting horizontally from the wall, capped with a hard white rubber buffer. I took hold of the rubber tip with my left hand and pulled it downward two centimeters against the metal coil's baseline tension. Upon releasing my grip, the entire mechanism snapped back, oscillating rapidly with an audible twang that vibrated through the floor under my boots. The resonant vibration subsided after four seconds, leaving the spring perfectly aligned once more.
