A Moment with Moss
I walked from the house down to the municipal conservatory to observe the tropical ferns. Along the moist stone bench near the central misting arch, a round river pebble covered in bright green moss sat slightly separated from a line of identical stones. Confirming my footing upon the damp slate, I leaned my plush weight against the pebble. It rolled softly through a trace of wet grit and settled flush against the adjoining stone. A cool droplet fell from an overhead palm onto my head tuft. I paused, keeping my balance upright while listening to the steady trickle of water behind me.
